MCL Medics Offshore Medic Initial and Refresher Course including Distance Learning Module.

The purpose of the course is to provide the government mandated training for Nurses, Paramedic and Military Medics who wish to work offshore as a Medic in the UK ContinentalShelf (UKCS).

This course is suitable for both persons starting their initial medic training or those already qualified and looking for a refresher of knowledge and skills. Our course is dynamic, with a hands-on approach and is delivered to a standard acceptable to the Health and Safety Executive in accordance with the Offshore Installations and Pipeline Works (First Aid) Regulations 1989.

Our aim is to provide a seamless experience from the point of booking to successful completion of the course and beyond. You will be guided throughout by a friendly, knowledgeable team with numerous years of industry experience between them.

Offshore Medic – Initial Course

The duration of the initial course is 4 weeks (120 hours) in total and consists of:

  • 10 days classroom based training at our venue in Aberdeen

  • 10 days clinical placements

Module 1

  • 5 days Clinical Assessment and Management Skills

Module 2

  • 5 days Remote Prehospital Emergency Care and Adult Advanced Life Support

Clinical Placements

  • 30 hours within a GP practice

  • 30 hours within an A&E setting

  • We will guide you through the options available regarding the clinical placements upon application

Prerequisites

NMC Registered Nurse (Adult) with appropriate three years’ post registration experience.
HCPC Paramedic with at least three years’ post registration experience and current HCPC registration.
Military Medic with at least three years’ full-time experience of the medical role in the Armed Forces.

Candidates for consideration from the Armed forces may be selected from the list below: 

Royal Navy Medical Assistant (at Leading Hand or above).

Royal Fleet Auxiliary Service Medical Technician must have come from one of the other subgroups and have completed a medical branch pre joining training course and a singleton role on board a vessel. 

Royal Marines Medical Assistant (at Corporal or above).

British Army Combat Medical Technician Class 1 (at Corporal or above) RAMC.

Royal Air Force Medical Assistant (at Corporal or above). 

Offshore Medic – Refresher Course

Course The MCL Medics Refresher course is 10 days in duration (60 hours) and consists of:

  • 5 days Clinical Assessment and Management Skills

  • 5 days Remote Prehospital Emergency Care and Adult Advanced Life Support Skills

The course is designed to be modular to assist with the all-important flexibilityaround rotations.

Module 2

  • 5 days Remote Prehospital Emergency Care and Adult Advanced Life Support

Prerequisites for attendance

An in date HSE Approved Offshore Medic certificate, a copy of which must be provided upon booking.
Certificates are valid for 3 years from the date of issue.

Distance Learning Module – Offshore Medic Refresher

MCL Medics recognise the time constraints placed upon Offshore Medics and their rota/shift patterns as such we have a developed a distance learning course which meets the HSE requirements of Offshore Medic Refresher. Offshore medics will complete the distance learning modules supported by our training team at least two weeks prior to the practical skills course.

The Offshore medic will then attend our training unit for 5 days of practical skills reinforcement with clinical updates and assessments.
